Buying A Washer & Dryer – Buying GuidesHow to Buy a Washer and Dryer

nnnnWhen it becomes time to replace a washer or dryer (or both) you need to consider several things.  How often do you do laundry, how large capacity do you need,  will you be washing very heavily soiled clothing often.  Consider if the washer and dryer are located  in a basement or in a kitchen or upstairs living space.  If so, you may want to spend a little more to purchase more quiet running appliances.

Since both a washer and dryer are expensive appliances you want to be sure your purchase will meet your needs for many years.  The average lifespan for a washer is approximately 11 – 13 years while a dryer may work fine for 15 -18 years,  Keep in mind that the washers today use much less water and energy  than washers of the past.

Do you prefer a front load or top load washer.  Top load washers are usually less expensive to buy, but they may use more water and energy than the front loader.  If your washer and dryer is limited to a certain amount of space be sure to measure before you make a purchase to be sure the appliances will fit in the allocated space.  A machine that acts as both a washer and dryer is available.  Stacked models with the washer on the bottom and the dryer on the top are also an option.  Of course, this arrangement will not work if there are top cabinets above the laundry station.

Washers come with many optional features such as automatic dispensers for soap and fabric softener, extra rinse cycles, stainless steel drums and touch pad controls to name a few.  Decide what features are important to you. vsfsfafa

Dryers can be either top or front loaders.  Usually the top loaders are less expensive,  You will need to know if your hookup is for an electric or a gas dryer before you make your purchase.  If you are buying a dryer to go with an existing washer you want the sizes to be compatible.

Dryers also have more features available than the basic necessities such as a moisture sensor which will turn the appliance off when it senses your cloths are dry, a steam feature to get rid of odors and reduce wrinkles and you can even get a dryer rack allowing you to dry items on a flat rack.  Again, its up to you what features you feel are important.

It may be a good idea to talk with your friends to see what they like or dislike about their own washer and dryer.

Whatever appliance you decide to purchase it will save money in the long run to buy a washer and dryer with an Energy Star rating.
