0068113131268_500X500Chromium is a mineral that is important for the body to function properly.  Since only a very small amount of chromium is necessary it is considered an essential trace element.   Most people receive the necessary amount of chromium through their diet.  However, to add to a diet that is not providing enough chromium there are supplements available.  Chromium Picolinate may be absorbed better than other forms of chromium by the body.

Chromium helps to process fats and carbohydrates and there is the possibility that chromium picolinate  may aid with weight loss.  Some people believe it can reduce appetites and reduce food cravings.  Other people use chromium picolinate as an aid for increasing muscle and decreasing body fat as well as increasing energy.

For those people with type 2 diabetes or those taking steroids chromium picolinate  may help control blood sugar.  There is evidence that this claim for chromium picolinate has proven merit.  There are additional  health benefits attributed to the use of chromium picolinate, but these benefits have not been proven yet by reputable studies.  Other health claims include help for people with hypoglycemia (low blood sugar) since it may increase their blood sugar. Chrominium picolinate may assist with mood disorders such as depression.  It may  help reduce bad  cholesterol and triglyceride levels and raise good cholesterol levels and it may improve blood flow.  It may help prevent blemishes and may be used for polycystic ovary syndrome.

As with any supplement there can be side effects from taking chromium picolinate.  These may includes dizziness, nausea, impaired thinking, coordination or judgment,  or mood changes.  Taking chromium picolinate for a period of less than six months does not appear

to cause any serious side effects for most people.   There can be serious side effects from a high level of chromium picolinate consumption such as kidney or liver damage.

Be  sure to discuss the use of chromium picolinate with your health care professional.  Do not  attempt  to treat yourself with supplements
