Hot Milk Cake and 1-2-3-4 Cake

Years ago there were no box cake mixes.  If you wanted a cake made at home it had to be made from scratch.  Two cake recipes that have been popular for generations and are still the favorites of many people today are the hot milk cake and the 1-2-3-4 cake.

Hot Milk Cake

2 cups flour2 tsp baking powder

1 cup milk½ pound butter or margarine

4 eggs2 cups sugar

2 tsp vanilla

Grease and flour cake pan and set aside.  Heat oven to 350 degrees   Place milk and butter in saucepan and heat over low heat until butter is melted and milk is hot. Do not allow this mixture to boil.  Meantime, beat eggs until slightly thickened, slowly beat in sugar.  Blend in the flour.
