When you have split ends, dull lifeless brittle hair, or problems with your scalp these are all indications your hair is damaged and needs some tender loving care to restore the natural luster and beauty to your hair.

There are many things which may cause damaged hair. Some medical conditions such as an under active thyroid, anorexia or heredity may cause damaged hair. Stress may be a condition which negatively affects your hair. Other factors to consider are exposure of the hair to the sun, chlorine from a pool, friction from a cotton pillow case, using harsh shampoo or soaps, excessive heat from blow dryers, curling irons or straightening irons, chemicals from hair dyes or other hair products. Even washing your hair too often may cause damage.

If your hair is damaged probably the best thing you can do is to get a haircut to remove some or all of the damage. If you are not willing or able to get a short haircut and remove all of the damaged hair at once simply getting a trim to remove the dry, dead, split ends of your hair will help.

Try to fashion a hairstyle which does not need any heat from the curling iron or straightening irons. After washing your hair allow it to air dry instead of using a blow dryer. (If you must use a blow dryer use the lowest possible heat setting.) After shampooing and towel drying your hair use a leave in hair conditioner.

You want to use a restorative shampoo, conditioner and other hair products. Use shampoo and conditioners which are sulfate free. If you have a build up of product on your hair use a clarifying shampoo once or twice a month.
