Before you wash your hair or get into a shower make sure your hair is free of tangles. Your hair is much more fragile when it is wet. For this reason you want to get rid of any tangles before you get your hair wet. You do not want to risk hair breakage by trying to comb tangled wet hair.

When you find a shampoo and conditioner that works well for your hair stick with these products. Some people think it is better to keep changing products. But, if you have found the right products there is no need to switch.

Use just a small amount of shampoo. You want to concentrate your shampoo near the scalp. Once you have lathered your hair allow the shampoo to stay on for a brief time. You can do a light scalp massage which can be very relaxing. It will also give the shampoo a little time to do its work.

Next rinse your hair using lukewarm water. After rinsing try to squeeze out as much water as possible. Conditioner works better on damp hair not on sopping wet hair. Go ahead and complete your shower before you condition your hair.

When you are ready to use the conditioner concentrate on your hair from about mid strand to the end. This is the area where you normally need to moisture. Wait a few minutes before washing out the conditioner. In fact, you can wrap your hair in a towel and leave the conditioner in for about 3 to 5 minutes. Be careful you don’t leave the conditioner on too long or it may leave a residue. Rinse the conditioner from your hair. Do a final rinse with cool water. The cool water will seal the outer layers of your hair and make it look more shiny. Use a wide tooth comb to comb your hair.

Allow your hair to air dry or use a blow dryer. If you are using a blow dryer allow your hair to air dry as long as possible to minimize damage. Then blow dry your hair from root to tip. Keep the hair dryer moving so you are not concentrating heat too long in any one spot.
