NI-MH The Long Life Battery

The Ni-MH batteries have a higher energy density which is approximately 40% higher than the nickel-cadmium batteries.  This increase in the energy density provides longer run times so you will have a longer service life than with ordinary batteries of the same size.  The Ni-MH batteries charge much faster than other types of battery, often within one hour.  They are safe to use and will withstand a variety of abusive when installed in various devices.

The Ni-MH battery is very popular with the high-end portable electronic devices.  Performance for these devices is of utmost importance and the Ni-MH battery gives the run time desired.  Run-time is a major consideration for a consumer and plays a big role in their choice of whether or not to purchase the device.  The reduced volume and weight is an important aspect of the Ni-MH battery.

The Ni-MH battery and the Ni-Cd batteries are similar in that they use the same technology.  The difference is that the Ni-MH battery uses the hydrogen-absorbing negative electrode instead of the cadmium-based electrode used in the Ni-Cd battery.  This small change eliminates the toxicity problem while increasing the electrical capacity of the battery.  Since there is no cadmium used in the Ni-MH battery the “memory effect” problem does not exist.

To ensure maximum safety these Ni-MH batteries are designed with a safety vent to avoid a build-up of pressure.  This build up may occur if the battery is exposed to high temperatures, is charged excessively or abused in some other manner.  The Ni-MH battery can be used in any position.  The only maintenance they require is to be kept dry and clean while in storage or in use.  They can be stored either charged or discharged.
