Simple Steps To Lose Weight And Keep It Off

Have you looked in the mirror recently and realized to your horror that you have gained weight? Or, has a friend that you haven’t seen in sometime made a comment about you being heavier?  Is it harder to fasten your buttons on your clothing?  Any of these things can make you want to rid yourself of the excess baggage on your hips.

Most people are familiar with all kinds of diets to takeoff weight fast.  It may be the juice diet, the soup diet, the cleanse, low fat, low carb or a diet program.  These plans will usually help you lose weight quickly, but often you gain it back just as quickly when you stop the program.

The key to losing weight and keeping it off is portion control.  You will not lose weight rapidly.  Instead you will usually have a slow steady loss of weight.

When you are focusing on your portions you don’t need to carry a calorie counter guide when you eat out.  You simply put a little less on your plate than you did before.

You might want to divide you plate into three sections in your mind.  Use one half of the plate for non-starchy vegetables, one quarter of your plate for a protein such as meat or fish and one quarter for a carb like sweet potatoes or brown rice.  If you want dessert have a little fruit.

When you are considering portions keep in mind that 3 ounces of meat is the equivalent of a bar of soap.  A medium potato is the size of a computer mouse.  One-half cup of rice is the equivalent of a cupcake and 1 ounce of cheese equals four dice.

It’s easier to control your portions when you eat your meals from a smaller plate.  Putting your meal on a lunch size plate will look like a larger amount of food than the same food on a dinner size plate.  You might even want to try eating on a saucer, but you may have to come back for seconds with such a small plate.  For some reason, people are said to want to eat less when eating from a blue plate.

Try to leave a small portion of your meal on the plate.  There is no reason why you need to consume every crumb of food that is on your plate.

Practice eating slower.  It takes time for your body to realize that it has had enough to eat and to signal you that it is time to stop.  When you eat very quickly you do not give your body time to issue the signal for you to stop eating.

Avoid being distracted by reading a book or watching TV when you are eating.  When you are distracted you are not aware of how much food you are eating and can very easily overeat.

The best part of losing weight by following portion control is that you continue to eat all the foods you enjoy now.  If you keep your portions sensible you do not have to give up any foods.  Of course, if all your favorite foods are processed, sugary foods you are going to have a problem.  Healthy foods are the key with only minor indulgences.

By following portion control you will not only lose your weight, but you will be able to keep it off.

If you find yourself tempted to overindulge picture yourself looking good in a mirror or being complimented by a friend on your new improved appearance.

When you get rid of some of your excess weight you will not only look better you will feel better too.
