Snowed In? Here’s Some Fun Things To Do

The snow is coming down, the kids are home from school and you are all in need of something fun to do.

Here are some suggestions the family might enjoy:

1.  If you are staying indoors have a marathon.  Relax on the couch, floor or your favorite chair.  Indulge in some hot chocolate and snacks and spend the day watching movies or your favorite shows.  If you don’t have kids to entertain you can indulge in watching the soap operas you previously taped to watch at a later time.  You and the family can even stay in your pajamas all day if you feel like it.

2.  Cook together.  Bake a cake, make some cookies, fix a  pizza, make a pot of soup or stew.  The kids can help and learn some cooking skills in the process.  If you have a fireplace you can carefully roast marshmallows or make smores.

3.  Enjoy some crafts.  Try your hand at painting.  Spend some time coloring (it is a good stress reliever), make some jewelry, crochet, knit, sew, write some poetry.  Do whatever type craft you each like.

4.  Have the children put on a show for the others in the family to appreciate.

5.  If you family is musically inclined play your piano or other instruments and enjoy singing favorite songs.

6.  Spend time together playing cards or board games.  Work on a jigsaw puzzle.

7.  If  you have a project you have been wanting to attempt in the home now is a good time to start even if you can’t finish the project all at one time.

8.  If there is something you want to learn, but have been putting it off, now is a good time to begin.  Perhaps you want to learn a new language or a new software program or  you want to research your ancestors – whatever interests you can be an enjoyable way to spend a snow day.

9.  For adults a snow day is a good time to be lazy.  Curl up with a good book, take naps throughout the day and simply pamper yourself.  Perhaps you can indulge in a nice bubble bath with candles and a glass of wine.

10.  If you become bored indoors and you want to have fun outdoors try taking a walk in the park through the snow.

11. Build a snowman.  Roll large balls of snow for the body and a smaller ball of snow for the head.  You can dress him with a hat and scarf.  Perhaps a pipe in his mouth.  Twigs can be used for arms and small rocks for eyes.

12. Make snow angels.  Plop down on the ground in the snow and move  your arms and legs to make the snow angels.  You can make as may angels as you want.

13. Find a hill and go sledding.  If you don’t have a proper sled you can improvise and make our own sled from something that will slide down a hill.

14. The walks and driveways need to be shoveled.  Let the kids help and make a game of it.

15. Set up a few targets and throw snowballs to knock the targets down.  The whole family can compete.

16. Go ice skating if you have access to a nearby safe place to skate.

After you have enjoyed a day outdoors in the snow, go inside, change to warm clothing and enjoy a cup of hot cocoa
