Tips To Slow The Aging Process

shutterstock_174677285Unfortunately as we age we develop fine lines and wrinkles on our faces, flabby limp muscles, weaker eyesight and loss of some coordination and balance.  All of these changes make us look and feel old.  You may be able to slow the aging process and appear younger with some lifestyle changes.

It is important to eat a healthy diet that will aid the cells in your body.  You need to try to eat five to nine servings of fruits and vegetables each day.

To help protect your vision you need several antioxidants – zinc, beta-carotene and vitamin C.  You can get these nutrients by eating dark green leafy vegetables.  Bright colored produce like peppers and oranges will also help vision.

Another antioxidant known as resveratol will help with premature aging and reduce cancer and heart disease risks.  It can be found in red wine and grapes.  For less wrinkles and younger looking skin consider eating more yellow and green vegetables.

Blueberries are very good for keeping your cells healthy.  They have anti-inflammatory properties and they may even help reduce the risk of Alzheimer’s disease.

Fatty acids in fish oil may lower your risk of stroke and help your heart,  Try eating several servings each week of fish such as tuna or salmon.  Using olive oil instead of other forms of fat may help reduce wrinkling and sagging skin.

Eating foods which contain probotic bacteria such as yogurt can help cut down on wrinkles and under eye puffiness.  Eating grapefruit daily may contribute to weight loss.

You want to be active and get some moderate exercise most days of the week including some light weight bearing exercises.

Smoking is one of the worst things you can do for your skin.  It contributes to lines and wrinkles.

Stress will help make you look older.  Getting the benefits of sunlight’s ultra-violet rays can increase your feeling of well being.  Of course, too much exposure to the sun can cause skin aging and wrinkles.  There are many  moistures for the skin on the market today which contain sunscreen.  Sunscreen should be worn everyday to protect your skin.

There are skin care products over the counter which contain vitamin A or retinol and may help reduce or even reverse signs of aging.

Using soap can dry your face, but there are cleansers which will not take away the natural oils from the skin.

An old saying goes you need to use it or you will lose it.  This is very true as we age.  It is especially true for those who (like me) are already in their “golden” years.

If you sit and zone out in front of the TV you will age – fast!  You need to keep your body moving as long as you are able.  You need to eat a healthy diet.  You need to stop smoking.  You need to keep you mind active.  Either read, work puzzles, enjoy a hobby, interact with your friends and family, volunteer, play pool or bingo, swim, hike, or travel.  Do whatever you enjoy.  Just be active and do something!
