Volumetrics Diet

The volumetrics diet has been around for many years.  It is one of the better diet plans for people to follow.  The volumetrics diet allows people to eat as much as they want to get full and stay full for a longer time.  This diet is designed to get rid of the feeling of being deprived and hungry that is experienced with so many other diets.  This diet plan is not going to work for you if you cannot stand to eat vegetables and fruits.

The theory behind the volumetrics diet is that people eat the same amount of food each day regardless of how many calories they consume.  Some foods have more calories per gram such as a plate of cookies. If you eat 1 or 2 pounds of cookies you will gain weight.  The volumetrics diet will show you how to eat the 2 pounds of food, but it will be food with fewer calories and more nutritional value that the cookies.

By choosing more fruits and vegetables you will eat more food with more nutrition and fewer calories.  Instead of gaining weight you will lose weight.

The volumentrics diet teaches you to eat low density food.  This means the foods have fewer calories relative to how much you eat.   High density foods, on the other hand, have lots of calories for a small amount of food.

The diet plan does not have foods that are prohibited. One of the aspects of the volumetrics diet is the eat foods which are up to 95% water based and this includes many fruits and vegetables.  You can eat a whole plate full of these fruits and vegetables for less calories than a slice of cake or pie or an ice cream sundae.  In addition to eating fruits and vegetables you eat lean meat and fish.

To follow the volumetrics diet plan you do not need to purchase any special foods so your grocery bill should stay about the same.  It is not difficult to follow the diet plan when eating in a restaurant.  There are no membership fees.  You design your own diet plan following the diet guidelines.

Foods are categorized as very low density which includes nonstarchy fruits and vegetables, broth based soups and nonfat milk.  Low density foods include starchy fruits and vegetables, low fat meat, legumes and grains.  Medium density foods include meat, pizza, cheese, French fries, salad dressings, bread, ice cream and cake.  Finally, high density foods include chips, chocolate candies, butter, and crackers. When deciding on your menu choose most foods from the very low density and low density group.  Be careful of your portion size when choosing medium density foods and only eat high density foods sparingly.  There are books and recipes available for the volumetrics diet plan if you want more in depth information.

Following the volumetrics diet you can expect to  lose one or two pounds per week, This may not sound like much, but over a period of time it can result in significant weight loss.  The diet is not extreme and provides acceptable ranges of the necessary nutrients.  It is an eating plan that many people have adopted as a life style change. Following the plan has allowed them to not only lose the weight, but to keep it off.
