Peanut butter is very popular and has been a staple in many households for years.

When you purchase commercial peanut butter it also likely contains salt, sugar and saturated fats to enhance flavor. Natural almond butter can be a healthier alternative when you are considering a nut butter. Usually almond butter is processed without the added ingredients found in peanut butter. For this reason you will find almond butter is a little more expensive than peanut butter.

If you cannot find natural almond butter in your local supermarket you will find it at a health food store. You can the find almond butter either chunky or creamy, whichever kind you prefer.

You can make your own almond butter. Simply place raw almonds in a food processor and process for about 30 minutes scraping the sides at times. The processing will allow the oil to be released from the almonds giving the butter its smooth texture. When the almond butter is finished put it in a jar with a lid and refrigerate.

You can use almond butter as a spread on bread or crackers either plain or with jelly or jam. You can add almond butter to sauces, use in a dip, add it to a smoothie or protein shake or add it to your oatmeal or use it in baking. There are numerous ways in which you can enjoy healthy almond butter.
