Baked Apples, Applesauce, Slow Cooker Apple Butter, Apple Crisp

Baked Apples

  • 6 apples
  • ½ cup chopped walnuts
  • ½ cup milk
  • ½ cup sugar
  • ½ teas ground cinnamon
  • ½ teas ground nutmeg
  • 3 Tbsp flour

Peel, core and slice the apples. Preheat oven to 350 degrees F. Spray a 2-quart casserole dish with cooking spray. Place the sliced apples in a large mixing bowl. In a smaller bowl combine the flour, sugar, cinnamon, and nutmeg and mix well. Spoon this mixture evenly over the apples in the larger mixing bowl. Stir in the walnuts and spoon the apple mixture into the prepared casserole dish. Evenly pour the milk over the apple mixture in the casserole dish.Bake apples in preheated oven for 50-60 minutes or until soft and bubbly. Before serving allow apples to cool slightly.


  • 4 cups of tart apples such as Granny Smith
  • ½ cup boiling water
  • ¼ cup sugar, more if desired
  • 1 teas lemon juice
  • ¼ teas cinnamon, optional

Peel, core and quarter the apples. Place the apples, lemon juice, cinnamon (if using), and sugar in the ½ cup of water and bring to a boil, Reduce heat and simmer until the apples are soft and tender, about 20 minutes Remove from stove when apples are tender. Allow apples to cool and then mash them to desired consistency with either a fork or a potato masher. Place in containers with lids and refrigerate until use.

Slow Cooker Apple Butter

  • 6 lbs. apples
  • 4 cups sugar
  • 2 teas ground cinnamon
  • ¼ teas ground cloves
  • ¼ teas salt

Peel and core the apples and chop fine. Place apples in slow cooker. In a small bowl mix together the cinnamon, sugar, salt and ground cloves. Pour this mixture over the apples and mix thoroughly. Cover slow cooker and cook on high for 1 hour. Then reduce heat to low and continue to cook apple butter for 10-11 hours. Stir this mixture occasionally. You want the mixture to be thickened and dark brown. Remove cover from slow cooker and continue cooking apple butter, uncovered, for an additional 1 hour. If you want your apple butter more smooth you can use a whisk to stir it. Otherwise simply stir with a spoon. Spoon the apple butter into sterile containers with covers, refrigerate or freeze.

Apple Crisp

  • 4 medium apples
  • ¼ cup butter or margarine
  • ½ cup brown sugar, firmly packed
  • ½ cup flour
  • ½ cup chopped walnuts
  • ¼ cup sugar
  • 1 teas ground cinnamon

Peel, core and slice the apples. Preheat oven to 350 degrees F. Spray 1 ½ quart baking dish with cooking spray. Blend together the butter or margarine, brown sugar and flour until this mixture is crumbly. Mix in the walnuts. In another dish toss the apples with the sugar and cinnamon. Place the apple mixture in the prepared baking dish and top with the crumbly nut mixture. Bake in preheated oven for one hour. Serve warm. The apple crisp is great plain, or you can top with whipped cream or serve with vanilla ice cream and caramel sauce.
