Sitting for long periods of time is bad for your health and may lead to an earlier death. It is estimated that if sitting is reduced to just three hours per day the life span may be increased by as much as two years.

In the interest of providing a healthier workplace for their employees some companies such as Google, Facebook and Venture Capital now offer standing desks. The use of standing desks in addition to improving health may also improve productivity.

When you decide to introduce standing desks into your office start by offering employees the choice of continuing to use their present desk or upgrading to a standing desk. You may want to provide a few standing desks which employees can try out and use for brief periods of time each day to get accustomed to the idea.

You probably will find some of those who choose to continue at a normal height desk may decide to change to a standing desk after they have seen the benefits for themselves.

You do not want to start using your standing for eight hours daily right from the beginning. Rather you need to start slowly and build up to more standing time. In the beginning you will probably notice some discomfort from the standing but this will pass over time and you will notice an increased sense of well being.

After using your standing desk for awhile you will find you are more creative, more alert, more energetic and have better posture and less aches and pains.

The standing desk can be a very good investment for the long term health of those in the workplace.
