Relieve Stomach Gas 

Many people deal with stomach gas.  Although there are lots of jokes about passing gas, for someone experiencing the problem it is not funny.  Stomach gas can be very painful.   

When you are having problems with gas you may experience bloating, burping, and flatulence in addition to the pain. If you are someone who suffers with stomach gas you will be relieved to learn there are some simple steps you can take to get relief. 

Some of us have habits that cause gas problems.  If you swallow too much air it can cause gas.  Perhaps you take in air as you eat or perhaps you breathe heavy.  When you eat or drink or chew gum, pay attention to how much air you actually are taking in.  It’s much easier to change a habit when you are aware of it.  Pay attention to how much air you take in during your daily activities.  Try to correct the habit of taking in too much air. 

We all know there are some foods that cause annoying gas.  Some of the foods that are well-known for causing gas include beans, cabbage, cauliflower and broccoli.  While these foods may cause gas, they are also healthy foods to eat.  They are low in fat and high in fiber.  Even though these foods may cause gas, they are important since you need fiber as part of your daily diet.  Other foods that may cause a gas problem include heavily spiced foods, foods with too much refined starch, wheat flour and even sugar. If you have a gas problem when eating these foods, you might want to try one of the over the counter pills or powders that you take with your meal to reduce gas.  These products work very well for some people, but they are not 100% effective for everyone. 

Your gas problem may stem not only from eating gassy foods, it may come from eating too much food.  It is not always the type food you eat that causes gas, it can be the amount of food you eat.  Try eating smaller portions and try eating slower to avoid some gas problems. It is important that you chew your food very well to help prevent gas.  When your stomach must work to digest food you haven’t properly chewed it can cause gas. 

Each person is different.  You need to figure out what food is causing the gas and then avoid it.  A few simple lifestyle changes such as being mindful of the foods you eat and the amount of food you eat may be all that is necessary to eliminate your stomach gas. 

If constipation is a problem for you, take a laxative that has simethicone as a key ingredient.  The simethicone will help break up gas bubbles that can cause pain. 

When you do have a gas attack the best way to get rid of the discomfort is to let the gas out.  There is nothing abnormal about passing gas.  Go to a restroom or somewhere away from other people and get rid of the gas. 

Gas causes uncomfortable tightness in the abdominal area.  You can help relieve this discomfort by lying down with a hot water bottle on your stomach.  Taking a hot bath may help too. 

Try drinking ginger or mint tea to help settle your stomach and aid your digestion.  Try one of the over the counter gas relief medications.
